Early Life

Capucine was born on January 28, 1928, in Saint-Raphaël, Var, France. However, she often got confused about her date of birth and sometimes mentioned that she was born in 1931 or 1933, as some sources indicate those years.

Her mother’s name was Marina di Guardo; her father’s name was Fr. Roberto Genuin. She had two siblings named Puerari Reckons and Junah.


She received her education in a French school and got a bachelor’s degree in foreign languages. She attended school in France and received a BA degree in foreign languages. She did not attend a University in life.

Career Life

In 1945, at age 17, she started his career in acting. While riding in a carriage in Paris, Lefebvre, she was noticed by a commercial photographer. She worked in a fashion house, “Givenchy and Christian Dior,” and became a fashion model. While modeling for Givenchy in Paris, Capucine met Audrey Hepburn, a British actress, and they remained close friends for the rest of Capucine’s life.

Capucine made her film debut in “Jean Cocteau’s The Eagle with Two Heads” in 1948 with a short role. She also appeared in “Jacques Becker’s Rendezvous” in July 1949 and “Robert Dhery’s Show” in 1949.

She also worked in “My Friend Sainfoin,” in 1950, “Dhéry’s Bernard and the Lion,” in 1951. After this, she did not work for a few years, and in 1955, she appeared in two of the movies,

“Mademoiselle from Paris” and “Frou-Frou”. In 1957, Capucine, a model in New York, caught the attention of film producer Charles K. Feldman.

Impressed by her talent, Feldman offered her a contract of $150 per week and brought her to Hollywood to study acting and learn English under the guidance of Gregory Ratoff. She adopted the stage name “Capucine” and embarked on her acting career.

In 1958, she signed a seven-year contract with Columbia Pictures. She had auditioned for the role of Feathers in Rio Bravo in 1950, but unfortunately, it was not a successful audition.

In 1960, she gave her first English-speaking role in the film “Song without End,” where she played Carolyne zu SaynWittgenstein. William Goetz once said, “You can teach a girl to act, but nobody can teach her how to look like a princess. You’ve got to start with a girl who looks like a princess.”

During the 1960s, she starred in several movies, two of which were with William Holden, with whom she had a romantic relationship for two years. After that, she returned to Europe and settled in Switzerland, where she continued her acting career.

She made her television debut in 1972, and in the 1980s, she focused primarily on television work. Sadly, on March 17, 1990, she died by jumping from her eighth-floor apartment in Lausanne, Switzerland.
